If the news that media mogul Drew Barrymore will host the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards didn’t have you screaming as if Ghostface had just slid into your DMs, wait until you see who’s nominated.
Horror and sci-fi tropes made big waves this year, with top contenders Stranger Things and The Last of Us bringing telepathic teens and zombie-like creatures to our screens. They are neck and neck with box office juggernaut Top Gun: Maverick, the highest-grossing domestic release of 2022 that saw Tom Cruise reprise his iconic role as pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. Heck, even Ghostface himself is up for a nod for his Scream VI brawl against the franchise’s recurring journalist Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox.
Leading the unscripted categories are Jersey Shore Family Vacation, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Vanderpump Rules. The ceremony will also debut two new categories this year — Best Reality On-Screen Team and Best Kick-Ass Cast — and fans can vote for their picks at vote.mtv.com through April 17. Get ready to laugh, cry, and yes, maybe even scream when the Movie & TV Awards air live on May 7 at 8 p.m. ET/PT from Los Angeles’s Barker Hangar.
